Legal Rights
Domestic abuse is against the law so, you can:
- Report your abuser to the police.
- Call 999 In an emergency
- Use the ‘civil’ law to protect yourself and your children, without involving the police.
- Make an application to the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (Clare’s Law). You have the right to ask if your partner may pose a risk to you.

Housing
If you are fleeing domestic abuse, you have rights around housing. You can:
- Go to a refuge.
- Seek support from the local council to access homelessness help.
- Seek support to make your property safer.

Finances and Benefits
There are steps you can take to regain your financial independence and begin to re-build your life free from fear. You can:
- Seek support to access government benefits.
- Take steps to protect your own accounts and finances.
- Seek support to enter employment.
