Immediate Danger Protocol
If you are in immediate danger, do not hesitate to call 999 and ask for police assistance.
However, we recognise there may be situations where you are not able to speak. In case of this situation, please follow the recognised protocol below:
- Respond via coughing or tapping on handset.
- If you prompted, press 55. This will transfer you automatically to the police.
- If you are calling 999 from a landline, and the operator can only hear background noise and cannot decide whether an emergency service is needed, you will connected to a police call handled.
- If the handset is replaced, the landline may remain connected for 45 seconds in case you pick up again.
